The Hotel & Spa do Vinho makes its debut in Brazil.

(SOU PAULO, BRAZIL) Autograph Collection Hotels today announced the opening of their new 128-room Hotel & Spa do Vinho in Bento Gonçalves, Brazil, as well as a franchise agreement with Harvest Administraço de Bens Ltda. property

For its wine-inspired spa treatments and unrivaled atmosphere, the iconic Spa do Vinho Caudalie recently won the coveted "Best Spa in Brazil" award from Brazilian travel magazine Viagem e Turismo. The region around Bento Conçalves is regarded as the "wine capital of Brazil," with 35 active wineries.

The Hotel & Spa do Vinho opened in 2007 in a Tuscan-style building on 18 hectares (44.5 acres) in an exclusive setting of stunning scenery, history, and culture in the heart of the Vale do Vinhedos (Vineyard Valley). The Vinothérapie Spa, which operates under license from Caudalie, a French beauty and spa company, specializes in one-of-a-kind therapies using proprietary wine and vine-related products. For true wine lovers, the hotel has two restaurants, Leopoldina Restaurante and Trattoria Damigiana, as well as the Sabrage Bar and a magnificent wine cellar with over 660 foreign and national labels. All of the establishments serve wine produced on the farm, which specializes in the Merlot VE wine. In addition, the resort has five meeting rooms with a total area of 502 square meters (5,400 square feet). Wine tours, a swimming pool, fitness center, sauna, tennis court, hiking trail, and library are all available in addition to the Spa.

The area's mountainous terrain, cool highland climate, and traditional Italian-style wineries, which draw on the heritage of Italian immigrants who settled the region in the late 1800s, add to the region's tourism appeal. The hotel's hilly terrain offers spectacular views of the surrounding vineyards and the mountainous scenery beyond.

"We are delighted to be a part of Marriott International's Autograph Collection to present our beautiful retreat to a wider audience," say Aldemir and Deborah Dadalt, directors and owners of Prisma Engenharia SA, a regional real estate development and construction company located in South America, which will continue to oversee the retreat operations.

"The Spa do Vinho has a fantastic local reputation as a luxury hotel with a distinct personality and experience, making it an ideal match for the Autograph Collection," said Guilherme Cesari, Marriott International's vice president of hotel growth in Brazil. "This hotel is renowned among Brazilian connoisseurs and bon vivants, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to share this one-of-a-kind experience with the rest of the world."

"The Spa do Vinho is a stunning addition to the Autograph Collection, situated in a premier wine-growing area and a popular vacation destination for the domestic market," said Kip Vreeland, vice president of Autograph Collection. "We are sure that our Autograph Collection guests will welcome this exclusive retreat as the newest member of our portfolio as our first retreat in South America in the exclusive Retreat group."

The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism has designated the region surrounding Bento Gonçalves for tourism growth and promotion. Although it is little known outside of Brazil and Argentina, the area offers a variety of eco- and adventure-tourism activities, including rafting on the Rio das Antas, rock climbing, abseiling (rappelling), paragliding, and hiking. According to the Tourism Office of the Municipality of Bento Gonçalves, the city receives an average of 800,000 visitors a year and has 10 hotels, including small bed-and-breakfast establishments. The nearest airports to the Spa do Vinho are Hugo Cantergiani Regional Airport in Caxias do Sul, 35 km/20 miles away, and Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre, 100 km/60 miles or a two-hour drive away.

The Renaissance So Paolo, the So Paolo Airport Marriott, the Marriott Executive Apartments So Paulo, and the JW Marriott Rio de Janeiro are among Marriott International's four hotels in Brazil, each representing a different brand. Spa da Vinho will be the 28th property to join this growing collection of independent hotels, which brings together outstanding properties chosen for their style and ability to provide guests with unique experiences. Although retaining their individual hotel brand identity, Autograph Collection members have access to Marriott International's global distribution and marketing platforms, including the company's industry-leading Marriott Rewards program.
